Homework for Friday

On a literal level, calling home is about a thirteen year old who shoplifts a button from a store and as a punishment has to go to the police station, get questioned and then gets put in a jail cell waiting for her parents to get her out. While An American Childhood is more about how a girl learned that anyone who is persistent can know the joy of pushing all of yourself at one thing through running away from a man who just would'nt give up even after they ran over ten blocks.
There is a lot of naming and detailing in the paragraphs on the two stories. In both stories there was a lot of names for people and a lot of descriptive things and there was also a lot of different types of objects in each of the stories. Sometimes they name characters in the story and that's all they do with them they give a little information or background of the character and drop it there. the names helps you visualize the people because they help you tell somewhat of what they are like because a name says a lot about a person. Also, with the names of the people u can visualize the scene better because u can imagine what the people are like from their names which makes it easier to picture in your mind. I think that a story is better with details because u can visualize it easier and a story is always better when u can visualize it.
A well-told story can have a lot of different things that make it good. It can build suspense, arouses curiosity in its readers and concludes the actions while resolving the conflict in the story. Another thing a well told story can have is it can focus on a single incident in a relatively short amount of time. Something i would add to the list is that a well-told story either has something important to tell us or it is at least interesting, or it could possibly be both entertaining and have something important to say.

  1. What you are talking about is what we often call a "deeper subject." Meaning, that a story will be about one thing on the surface level, and will also be sharing a deeper, more important subject.
